Taberna do Mercado

Taberna do Mercado is an all-day casual Portuguese restaurant in Spitalfields. Overseen by chef Nuno Mendes, Head chef Antonio Galapito is passionate about using top quality produce from his home country for the menu which also features an exciting selection of Portugual’s independent winemakers.

Nuno Mendes’ first venture fully focused on his native country of Portugal and is a small casual dining restaurant in the heart of Old Spitalfields Market. Nuno wants to share with Londoners the breath of flavours and wines that Portugal has to offer and that have inspired him since his childhood and informed his cooking.  An all-day dining restaurant, Taberna do Mercado offers small sharing plates alongside an exciting and accessible Portuguese wine list.

The head chef at Taberna do Mercado is Antonio Galapito, a great friend of Nuno’s who has worked alongside him since 2008 when Bacchus Gastropub first launched. He went on to work at The Loft Project and most recently with Nuno at Corner Room and Viajante. Over the last year Antonio has worked in the kitchens of Lyles and White Rabbit.  Trained as a chef in Portugal, Antonio was born and raised in Negrais, a little village in the Sintra region of Portugal, mostly famous for roasted suckling pigs which his family had a long history of business in.
